Wednesday, July 15th, 1964: 400 Homers for Mays
It was a great day for Willie Mays, but not a good one for his San Francisco Giants. The 33-year-old center fielder reached a personal milestone with his 400th career homer, but it wasn't enough to beat the Milwaukee Braves, who came away with a 6-5 victory. Mays finished the day with 1 hit, 1 RBI and 1 run scored.

"Well, I’ve conceded the fact that you can’t will yourself to hit a home run," he said. "I tried hard for the last few days. It was getting to be embarrassing with the crowd standing up every time I came to the plate."

Career-to-date Mays has rung up a .310 average, played in 1697 games and collected 310 doubles, 101 triples and 400 home runs.
Wednesday, July 15th, 1964: Aparicio May Depart Milwaukee
"Don't believe everything you hear" was the word from the team's ownership group after rumors of Luis Aparicio wanting out of Milwaukee surfaced late yesterday. No one knows exactly how this news broke and Aparicio laughed it off when told of the story.
Monday, July 13th, 1964: Senators Whitewash Red Sox, Osteen Winner
Goose eggs were the order of the day for Boston as Claude Osteen shut out the Red Sox 6-0 at R.F.K. Stadium. The Washington pitcher struck out 7 and walked 0 while allowing 3 hits.

On his 1964 stats sheet Osteen shows a 8-5 record, 24 starts, 153.2 innings, 82 strikeouts and a 3.10 ERA.
