Monday, July 6th, 1964: Cater 5-6 Against Virginians
It was a big day with the bat for Danny Cater of the Vancouver Mounties at Capliano Stadium as he bashed out hit after hit after hit to defeat Richmond 19-11.

To the press after the ballgame he modestly said, "Guys, it's just one game in a long season. I hit it hard and found some holes today. 5 hits in 6 tries. But my hits are not the big thing in the game. The victory is the important thing. That's the story."

At the end of the game Cater had collected 5 hits in 6 at-bats and a small mention in the record book. He was happy. He had a big day with the bat. And the Mounties had won.

The beat writers were happy, too. They had their big story -- they could write about his big day with the bat.

D. Cater grounded out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, hit a two-run single in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off J. Unknown in the 7th and hit a GRAND SLAM off J. Unknown in the 9th.

This year Cater is batting .360 with 98 hits, 9 home runs, 46 RBIs, 20 walks, .404 OBP and has scored 55 runs.
