Sunday, July 19th, 1964: Clemens Slams 5 Hits for Atlanta
Doug Clemens exploded for a barrage of base hits today at Ponce de Leon Park. The Atlanta right fielder had a field day in the 21-7 triumph over the Richmond Virginians, finishing with a 5-5 day and a spot in the league record book.

"My hitting philosophy is pretty simple," he said. "I focus on just seeing the ball and I try to get a good pitch."

Well, Clemens must have focused at least 5 times and apparently got some good pitches, too. It was one of his best days ever with the bat.

D. Clemens singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, walked in the 6th, walked in the 7th and singled in the 8th.

This season Clemens is swinging the bat at a .358 pace. He has hit 5 home runs and scored 41 times, while driving in 31. His on-base percentage is .492 and he has played in 81 games.
