| Breaking News | | Monday, April 12th, 1965: Runnels Gets Number 2000 He made it! Pete Runnels got hit #2000! The Reds first baseman got his milestone hit at Crosley Field against Milwaukee. But it wasn't enough to bring home the victory. Cincinnati was beaten by the Braves 5-2.
Runnels's reaction to his accomplishment was nonchalant. He doffed his batting helmet to acknowledge the fans, who were chanting his name.
His manager said, "Pete doesn't pay any attention to individual statistics, the only thing he cares about is winning. He will be more concerned that we lost the game."
Runnels finished the game with 2 hits in 3 at-bats.
Over his career Runnels is batting .292 with 327 doubles, 64 triples, 55 home runs, 703 RBIs and scored 941 runs in 1903 games. | | Thursday, November 26th, 1964: Star RF Signs Pact with Reds Frank Robinson might be greedy, but there's no disputing his talent. The hotshot right fielder will pocket $5,100,000 after re-signing with the Reds earlier today, and will hang around another 4 years.
Some more financially prudent fans worried that the signing would burden the club down the road and might prevent it from being competitive, though many others were simply thankful that Robinson didn't bolt.
Robinson's career batting average is .302. In 1327 games, he has gotten 1527 hits, 283 home runs, 852 RBIs and scored 906 runs. | | Friday, October 2nd, 1964: Mossi Blanks Philadelphia Before the game Don Mossi liked his chances and his instincts proved to be right. In a superb outing the Reds pitcher whitewashed the Philadelphia Phillies 2-0.
Mossi said in the clubhouse afterward, "I just had a feeling it was going to be my day. My control was awesome. I could throw my curveball even when I was behind in the count."
The Cincinnati starter held Philadelphia scoreless, giving up 4 hits while registering 7 strikeouts and issuing 1 walk.
"We didn't have very many good at-bats," the Phillies manager said in his postgame interview.
"When that happens, you usually lose."
So far this year Mossi has made 32 starts, tossed 221.2 innings, struck out 127 batters and walked 27. His record is 16-10 with a 3.09 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .258 batting average. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | SS Leo Cardenas | migraine | 2 days | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 5-10, .333 PCT | | Position in Division | 10th, 5.5 GB | | Record at home | 2-7, .222 PCT | | Record on the road | 3-3, .500 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 0-3, .000 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 1-0, 1.000 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 0-6, .000 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 5-4, .556 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in April | 5-10, .333 PCT |
