San Francisco rode the magical arm of Ken Johnson in a 1-0 shutout win over New York. He shackled them on 3 hits and fanned 4. Almost to a man, the New York Mets said he had them guessing wrong all game long.

Tuesday, October 27th, 1964: Morgan Selected NL Rookie of the Year
Joe Morgan of the New York Mets made quite a splash on the National scene in 1964 by nabbing the Jackie Robinson Award.

The standout Mets second baseman took the honor by hitting .319 in 142 games this season and finishing with 146 hits, 23 home runs, 78 RBIs and 75 runs scored.
Thursday, October 1st, 1964: NL's Top Hitter Announced
When Joe Morgan stepped up to the plate in September, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the National Batter of the Month award.

The young New York second baseman posted a .379 batting average with 6 home runs, 17 RBIs and scored 20 runs. Morgan also worked pitchers for 16 walks to post a .476 on-base percentage.

In the 1964 season Morgan is batting .317 with 141 hits and 20 home runs. He has scored 70 times and batted in 73.
