| Breaking News | | Friday, April 30th, 1965: Wills Will Miss 3-4 Weeks San Francisco fans will be disappointed to learn that Maury Wills developed fractured ribs while colliding with a player at a base in today's game. After the doctor informed the San Francisco Giants manager that Wills was expected to miss 3-4 weeks, the manager told the press that the rest of the team would have to step up their play until the shortstop could return. "You can't make excuses in baseball, because there's always a game tomorrow," said the team's skipper.
This season in 17 games Wills is batting .220 with no home runs, 2 RBIs and has scored 6 times. | | Sunday, April 25th, 1965: Johnson Puts Spell on New York San Francisco rode the magical arm of Ken Johnson in a 1-0 shutout win over New York. He shackled them on 3 hits and fanned 4. Almost to a man, the New York Mets said he had them guessing wrong all game long.
| | Wednesday, April 21st, 1965: Mays Cracks 5 Hits "Ever since I picked up my first bat my coaches were always saying to keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing... just make contact and ya never know what'll happen," San Francisco's Willie Mays told reporters after the game. "That's all I did today. I made contact and it turned out well."
It definitely turn out well for Mays today as he collected 5 hits in 5 at-bats against Pittsburgh. It turned out well for his team, too, as the Giants knocked off the Pirates 8-5 at Candlestick Park.
W. Mays singled in the 1st, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off T. Sisk in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.
This season Mays is batting .243 with 2 home runs. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | RF Bob Chance | strained back muscle | one week | On DL, eligible for return | | SS Maury Wills | fractured ribs | 3-4 weeks | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 7-10, .412 PCT | | Position in Division | 7th, 4.5 GB | | Record at home | 3-5, .375 PCT | | Record on the road | 4-5, .444 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 2-1, .667 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 2-1, .667 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 5-6, .455 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 2-4, .333 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 3-7, .300 PCT | | Record in April | 7-10, .412 PCT |
