| Breaking News |  | Tuesday, September 1st, 1964: Portland's Pfister Top Pitcher in August
Dan Pfister took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Kenesaw Mountain Landis League Pitcher of the Month award for August.
The 27-year-old Beavers starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 4-1 won-lost record in 8 starts. He has fanned 52 batters in 61.2 innings and sports a 1.17 ERA.
This season Pfister has compiled a 6-13 record with a 4.02 ERA in 30 starts.

 | Monday, June 15th, 1964: Southworth on a Hot Streak, KMLL Player of the Week
Not every ball that came off Bill Southworth's bat last week was a line drive or a towering shot -- it just seemed that way to the teams that played the Portland Beavers. For his exploits, Southworth was named this week's Kenesaw Mountain Landis League Player of the Week award.
The Portland third baseman put up 12 hits in 26 at-bats and 2 home runs while hitting .462 with 10 RBIs and 6 runs scored.
So far this year Southworth has 6 home runs and a .281 batting average.

 | Tuesday, August 6th, 1963: Boccabella Belts Bunch of Base Hits
If just anyone could go out and hit a baseball, big dollar contracts wouldn't exist. But they can't, so the good hitters get the big bucks. John Boccabella showed how it's done as he went 5 for 6 against the Denver Bears and helped the Portland Beavers beat them 13-4.
The manager for the Bears told the BNN sportswriters, "We made some bad pitches and he took advantage of it. That's the game of baseball. Don't make mistakes and you win a lot more ballgames."
If Boccabella keeps hitting like this, he could be headed for a big pay raise.
J. Boccabella hit an RBI single in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit a GRAND SLAM off J. Unknown in the 9th.
Boccabella is presently hitting at a .304 pace with 10 home runs, 63 RBIs and has scored 68 times.
