Tuesday, August 18th, 1964: Deal Rumored for Crackers Brown
Atlanta's Dick Brown has mixed feelings about a possible trade. The 29-year-old catcher, when reached for comment on recent trade rumors, replied, "I've made some good friends here. I'm not sure I'm ready to leave."
Monday, July 27th, 1964: Alexander Cartwright League Names #1 Player
Marv Throneberry punched, poked and pummeled the baseball last week and today he garnered a majority of the votes for the Alexander Cartwright League Player of the Week award.

The Atlanta Crackers first baseman slashed out a .409 average with 9 hits in 22 at-bats, 6 home runs and 14 RBIs.

Throneberry is batting at a .336 pace in 1964, picking up 90 hits in 268 at-bats with 20 home runs, 67 RBIs and 66 runs scored.
Thursday, July 23rd, 1964: 5-5 Day for Johnson
Today the Mounties downed the Crackers 5-4, but Lou Johnson did his best to avoid that outcome as he lashed hits all over Ponce de Leon Park in a 5-hit explosion, finishing with 5 hits in 5 at-bats.

"I don't remember a better day batting, but it sure is disappointing to lose the game," the Atlanta left fielder said to BNN reporters in the postgame interview. "A win would have made the day much sweeter."

Asked if he had a hitting philosophy, Johnson said, "It makes it easier if you get a good pitch. The odds are in your favor then, not the pitcher's. I got a bunch of good pitches to hit today, and I didn't miss any of them."

L. Johnson doubled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.

This year Johnson has hit 3 home runs and posted a .308 batting average.
