New York fans will be disappointed to learn that Tom Tresh developed a damaged meniscus while colliding with a player at a base in today's game. After the doctor informed the New York Yankees manager that Tresh was expected to miss 2 weeks, the manager told the press that the rest of the team would have to step up their play until the shortstop could return. "You can't make excuses in baseball, because there's always a game tomorrow," said the team's skipper.

At a midafternoon press conference, New York Yankees officials flanked Marshall Bridges and announced they had reached an extension with the 33-year-old reliever.

Terms include a $364,000 salary distributed over 2 years.
